New website coming soon!!
Due to a technical error, we have been unable to edit our old website for some time, but we are now due to get our shiny new website up and running before the year is out. Expect more colour, more blog activity and more photos of our events, plus a general overhaul into the current century!
Looking forward to 2017
Thanks to generous donations, not only financial but also of staff and volunteer time and free goodies, we were able to run 4 events in 2016, 1 spring small group (6 children) 2 summer small groups (12 children) and a large Christmas (18 children). We have started 2017 on a positive note, with almost enough money in the coffers to run our first spring event already, and we are cleansing our database ready for the February letter run which hopefully will enable us to match the
Xmas 2016- Dunfield House
In December, thanks to the generosity of donors and the Dunfield House Trustee Board we were able to run a good old fashioned Christmas holiday for 18 children many of whom would never be likely to experience this. We made use of the swimming pool and sports hall but also the local area with a great treasure hunt - building team work, cooperation, self-control and observation skills. We also had a major push on self-esteem and PSE (personal and social education) with children
A wee note about summer 2016
The two small group events took place in cottages in the forest of dean where we ran around like mad things on the local sports field, explored the woods and local puzzlewood, made giant bubbles, thumb stones and wacky sack stress relievers, played games, read, enjoyed each other’s company and took part in both team and individual challenges building self-esteem, cooperation, communication, team work, leadership and individual skills. Within these small groups we worked on an
Spring 2016 respite update
SGH is aiming to run four repsite camps in 2016, funding permitting. Sadly we had to postpone our Easter camp due to illness, but we were able to run a camp in May and we are in the throes of organising our two summer camps and one larger camp for Christmas. SGH Trust has, so far this calendar year, run one small group holiday providing for 6 children in cottages at the edge of the Forest of Dean, the children had a great time exploring the local area with us, eating and slee
Hoggin The Bridge
We were lucky enough to be recipients of charitable donations fom Hoggin the Bridge in 2015, for the second year running. One of our trustees went along to the presentation ceremony to speak about SGH's good work, and thank the organisers of Hoggin the Bridge for their generosity. This year the ride will take place on Sunday 16th October 2016 and will start in the Brightside Group PLC car park which is behind Severn View Services, Aust, Junction 1 M48, near Bristol. The para
Christmas 2015 is on...

Spring & Summer 2015- ahead of previous year already!
This year we have so far run 2 Small Group Holidays each providing a 6 day experience for 6 children, staying in 2 cottages on the edge of the Forest of Dean, our first was in the spring bank holiday half term, the weather was dry so we spent considerable time enjoying the surrounding countryside with walks in the local area across fields and into the woodland, taking part in bird and plant spotting, basic countryside education and enjoyment. We visited the sculpture trail an
Xmas 2014- The big party
Due to the number of generous donations this year we were not only able to run a summer event but also an old fashioned child centered Christmas Holiday for 18 children. These children came from a variety of backgrounds. We stayed at Barton Children’s Centre in Somerset for 4 days and spent our time playing uni-hoc and various other games, reading and developing our social and personal skills whilst also getting to know each other in order to be able to choose a gift from ou
Summer 2013- the first event
In summer 2013 we successfully held our first event for six children in Cornwall. We spent time playing games both in the house and in the garden, created 'waterworld' on the beach, played in the sea jumping waves, ate wonderfully, chatted and chilled, and generally had an old fashioned child centered family style seaside holiday. The children learnt a lot regarding manners and living with others, respecting each other and property, taking turns, sharing, and life skills lik
