Xmas 2016- Dunfield House

In December, thanks to the generosity of donors and the Dunfield House Trustee Board we were able to run a good old fashioned Christmas holiday for 18 children many of whom would never be likely to experience this.

We made use of the swimming pool and sports hall but also the local area with a great treasure hunt - building team work, cooperation, self-control and observation skills. We also had a major push on self-esteem and PSE (personal and social education) with children identifying not only their own positive points but working in their family groups to add their thoughts to others lists, creating labels for their treasure jars.

We also did lots of Christmassy arts and crafts, decorating a Christmas souveneir plate, a treasure jar, and a Christmas sack which then magically filled with stocking goodies. Father Christmas also made a speedy visit during tea-time leaving a toppling pile of gifts behind him for the children to find when he rang the giant bell as he left to continue the rush to prepare for Christmas.

Children attending came from many different situations and included – bereavements, alcohol and drug abuse, domestic violence, parents in prison, suspected sexual abuse, ‘cared for’ children, mental health issues, poverty and isolation.
